LWV Berks County Presents: Book Bans

Join the League of Women Voters of Berks County on BCTV as they discuss: “Book Bans – What’s the story?” Watch here!

• John Morgan, President of the Berks Intercultural Alliance.

• Chip Karasin, long-time member of the League of Women Voters.

Guests include:

• Joslyn Diffenbaugh, a student at Kutztown High School where she is the founder of the Banned Book Club.

• Kristin Brumbach, a school librarian for the Governor Mifflin School District.

• Ismail Smith-Wade-El Ismail, PA Representative for 49th District covering Lancaster County and co-sponsor of HB1374

• Jordan Busits, An employee of the Firefly Book Store in Kutztown. She is the adult advisor for the Banned Book Club.

Among the questions on which we hope to get answers:

1. Is this book banning or age-appropriate?

2. Will book banning move from schools to public libraries?

3. Who decides what is banned or age-inappropriate?

4. Does not reading certain books help us better understand our world?

5. Cancel culture on the left? Book banning on the right? Is there a difference?
