This month we invite the LWVPA Environmental Policy Committee and Director Kathy Cook to join a discussion about Environmental Justice. Access to a breathable, livable and safe environment is a fundamental right of every Pennsylvanian. This is a privilege enjoyed by some yet inaccessible to others. Inequities today are based on long standing policies of intentional racial segregation, the legacy of slavery, Colonialism, and existing economic and political barriers. Consequences are far reaching for disenfranchised communities, severely impacting health, food access, safety, quality of life and life span.
Environmental justice advocacy is urgent today and it matters to everyone. Every local League should be aware of the needs within their communities and how to engage effectively with others to affect positive change. Learn what programs are in place and being developed and how your League can get involved. Photo by Maxim Tolchinskiy on Unsplash.
