LWV Washington County to hold Candidate Forum for 48th
District Candidates
Candidates for the 48th Legislative District will meet for a non-partisan
forum sponsored by the LWV of Washington County on May 6 at 7:00 p.m. at
the North Strabane Township Building, 1929 Rte 519 South, Canonsburg.
Democratic candidates Robert E. Fisher and Brandon Neuman and Republican
candidates Cody Knotts and Robert Koman are expected to participate.
This is an open race with no incumbent in it as current representative Tim
Solobay is running for the PA Senate.
All forums run by the LWV are nonpartisan. Each participant is given
equal time in an opening statement, responses to questions, and a closing
statement. The goal is to focus on issues relevant to the office and
to hear the candidates state their positions on these issues.
Written questions may be submitted for the moderator to ask.
The public is encouraged to attend the forum and learn more about the candidates.
Pennsylvania has a closed primary system, which means that only those registered
in a major party can vote in the May 18 primary. Registration for this
election is now closed, but registered voters who will be absent from their
district on Election Day may apply for absentee ballots now.
In preparing for the election, voters can check the nonpartisan LWV Voters
Guide for statewide races and those in Washington County. The 48th
Legislative District includes a large area of Washington County from south
of the city of Washington up through Canonsburg. The guide is now available
on line at www.palwv.org/washingtoncopa for voters to check at their convenience
and will be included in local papers on May 11.
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages
informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding
of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education
and advocacy.
