DNet
Sue Broughton, sbroughton@macconnect.com
DNet was a rousing success in 2004! It covered over 25,000 candidates in over 5,800 primary and general elections, and (as part of the CapwizTM Election tool) received nearly 50 million page views over the year. The tool received 15 million page views on Election Day alone! Both the League and Capitol Advantage consider the partnership to have been an enormous success. However, since Capitol Advantage does not have the ability to cover local races at this time and because there are many costs involved with running a nationwide program of this type, DNet will not be operational in 2005. However, the LWVEF Board of Trustees reaffirmed its commitment to the goal of maintaining such a presence in this age of the Internet, even though the nature of that presence may evolve over time. As a result, during 2005, LWVEF staff will be undertaking two different efforts, both related to maintaining the League’s well-respected national online voter education presence. The first effort is for the
national office to host and/or link to all Leagues’ primary and
general election Voter Guides on the LWVUS Web site. This will become
operational in late February, and more details will be forthcoming on
how to take advantage of this offer. In addition, Leagues are strongly
encouraged to maintain their own online voter information as well. The
second effort will be to investigate a range of funding models for DNet
and other types of online national voter information services in order
to determine a strategy for 2006. We will be looking to League leaders
for their thoughts on how the League can continue to be a leader in providing
online election information. |
