A nonpartisan grassroots civics organization

When women finally won the right to vote in 1920 the League of Women Voters was formed to help provide education about the political process and enable informed participation in government. More than 87 years later, the League continues to be the place where hands-on work to safeguard democracy leads to civic improvement.

The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania is a non-partisan, grassroots organization with over 35 local chapters throughout the Commonwealth. Our members at the local, state and national levels are engaged in many activities to further our mission. These include sponsoring candidate forums, publishing voter guides, conducting voter registration drives, and holding public forums and advocating on issues important to our communities.

During the 2007-2008 term LWVPA will focus on government reform issues including redistricting, election and campaign finance reform.

Membership in the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania is open to all Pennsylvanians of voting age, male or female. League members can participate as much or as little as they desire. Whether you join at the local, state or national level, you are automatically a member of all three (if there is a local League near you.)

Margaret Mead said "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

I hope that if you're not already a member you'll join the League of Women Voters and help us change the world... one issue, one election, one community at a time.
